Red pins and blue needles...

...is what I'm on today. It's an astonishing thing to wake up and know that one of the most historic days in your lifetime is about to unfold. Red or blue results aside, the fact that Barack Obama went to the polls today to vote for himself to be the President of the United States of America is one of the most beautiful realizations of the "American Dream" that I've ever witnessed.

It's an old image, but a perfect capture of what I hope can happen today - regardless of who takes the White House (although I PASSIONATELY support my candidate), the only possibility in going forward is to be united:

Those wise Irishmen...
PLEASE VOTE!

Joyce, I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS!!!! I desperately hope for the dream to come true...
I've asked every american tourist in the museum today if they'd already voted before coming to Spain, and everyone has. I think I will not sleep tonight, listening to the radio to find out how History is made. As I said in my blog (and I will understand if you decide not to publish this, but I'm happy that you read it), to think that someone who doesn't come from a war but from the University, where he studied how to help people grow out from misery, where he studied Law; someone whose blood comes from the most suffering continent, who speaks like a poet and seems to have truth in his eyes... To think that such man can lead our world starting from tomorrow seems to me the most wonderful of hopes.

Good night... and good luck ;-)

The world could be different tomorrow and we'll be witnesses...

We are still pursuing happiness...

Could not agree with the sentiment more completely.

Would just add the following observation respecting Papagena's comment: Senior military officers tend to be among the most agresive doves and indeed a far greater number of such officers support Obama rather than McCain. Academics (in and out of the Bush administration) and many lawyers, particularly among those working for Vice-President Chaney have been among the most aggresive hawks and because of their lack of military service have been labeled "chicken hawks".

Obviously I do not intend this as an endorsement of any candidate, past policy choice or future policy agenda.

Again wish to express my most enthusiastic sympathy with Joyce's comments on this election day.

Congratulations!

I hope that Obama will be a great president, but what makes me most happy today is to see how America has grown, how she has beaten down prejudice and embraced change.

My best wishes for the US and American friends.

'twas heart-warming to see everyone cheering and sooo g'dang _happy_. I remember the 2000 election - just shell shocked and denial with respect to the Supreme Court.

Now everyone can be all happy until 8 years later..

I have a dream today!

I almost cried this morning, watching the tears
in Jesse Jackson's eyes. It was so incredible to hear the elected president of the USA speak about peace, about changing the world... I'm incredibly happy to be able to witness how a man who couldn't even have voted only 50 years ago is about to be the president: that reminds me how great and beautiful democracy can be.

Congratulations America!!!

Today's a great day for the whole world.
