Introducing....

It's official! "The" Barber that I wrote so much about here last summer is coming out on DVD! I can't tell you how thrilled I am that we were able to all come to an agreement and bring this to opera lovers everywhere. This disc will be different, because normally a filmed opera is pulled from a minimum of 3 performances and then edited for correct camera shots, etc. Well, we only had ONE shot. So what you will see is truly a single live performance.

I am so honored to have been a part of such a distinguished cast with the incredible Tony Pappano bringing his first Barber to the stage, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results, much as I would have preferred to have been on my feet!

Spread the word and ENJOY!

Cheers!

Pre-ordered 2 weeks ago, and I can't wait to live all over again one the best (if not the best) opera-nights of my life :)

Support your local record Store! I will be actually buying one at J&R Music in NYC when it comes out.

I was wondering how you navigated the raked stage in the wheelchair. I see now.

Thank your pals at EMI Classics for putting this out!

Fantastic!!!!!!!

Once in a while (and this just happened to me within the last week and half two weeks or so) we are lucky enough to attend a performance where everything just clicks and is absolute magic and even though that magic can't quite be replicated in the same way on DVD we dearly wish we very much would love to have such a souvenir and regret sincerely that so few of them are actually reproduced (as opposed to the dozens of boring performances that do become available). The Barbiere last summer was very much that kind of evening (we were there on the too memorable opening night) and its great that for once the powers that be got their act together. The names will certainly help it sell but the performance was even better than those names might suggest and we are all very very lucky that it has been preserved and made available.

Looks and sounds absolutely marvelous and above all unique. I doubt that there will ever be another performance like this one. [By the way friends of mine saw the Barber in Los Angeles in December and said it was the most wonderful opera performance they had ever seen). I'd say you and Florez more or less "own" this opera.

As I have already squeezed it into the Nozze post: This performance is absolutely unique!! I have never experienced the Covent Garden audience so much beside themselves. Thank you Joyce and the whole cast that this "wonder" has been published on DVD. I have already got it - simply sensational! H.

I saw this on opening night when your fall happened and then on a couple of other occasions before the run finished, including the night the cameras were recording. I left in some sort of operatic nirvana, walking round with a smile on my face for days afterwards at witnessing such a stellar cast. I'm really glad that I'll be able to watch it in its entirety once again.

I am so thrilled this has been published !! I showed a piece of it to a friend who normally has no interest in opera, and he was totally enthusiastic and wanted to know where to get the DVD. So, this may not only be for the fans, but it may also reach a new audience.

I would not be surprised if ths were to become one of the bestselling opera DVDs ever...

Happy Easter, Joyce!Enjoy this well-earned holiday. You are not only a great artist, but an astute business woman as well, it'll come in handy along the way.Remember, Constanza had to scramble furiously to pay the bills after her husbands demise. Now that spring is here thoughts are turning to Geneva and Paris, and no more Hosenrollen for a while. Why drag a sword around the stage if you can slay them with tanti affeti. This is beginning to look like a great year for you. Carpe diem! All best wishes, stay well.

Ooh! OOH!! Good thing I have a birthday coming up. My tape of the Met production from my local public TV station is getting a little thin. I'm building up quite the little library

I just watched it(in the UK) and It's great. This really is a perfect cast,no pun intended. I really like how you didn't try to pretend the wheelchair wasn't there, you made it part of the show.

Sooooooooooooooo charming! And nicely filmed too, eh? I guess this will be my kids' first at-home-opera-on-DVD experience! Wonderful.

I bought the DVD today! I'm already watching it (of course)!
I have to say th DVD is not exactly ONE shot. The night the Barbiere was retransmitted on big screens, in the first scene, during the Ecco ridente in cielo, when Juan Diego jumped from the tree he slipped and fell, and in the DVD he doesn't fall ^^ But I think apart from that it is in fact a "one shot DVD"
Anyway, this Barbiere rocks! :-)

Bye!

Just caught up with your blog (after "Mosè in Egitto" at Chicago Opera Theater, conducted by Leonardo Vordoni), and I immediately hopped to Amazon to buy the DVD. --Patricia Brauner
