Musings

It would appear to be official:

October 6th sees the arrival of MY NEXT DISC, which I'm IMMENSELY excited about, to say the very least.

Welcome to the world of Isabella Colbran and Gioachino Rossini, prima donna and celebrated composer: lovers, spouses, perhaps even revolutionaries. I delved into their world for a wonderful week in Rome and spent time with the wicked, the wonderful, the noble and the sorrowful ladies which he created for his muse: a prima donna of the highest rank who brought her immense range and fierce temperament to the stage.

The task was daunting, to put it mildly, but the joy of singing these roles with the amazing playing of the Academia di Santa Cecilia orchestra was off the charts for me. Oh, how I adore these ladies: Elena (Donna del Lago), Anna (Maometto II), Elisabetta, Semiramide, Desdemona (Otello), and ARMIDA!

I do hope that it will say something about Rossini which is often overlooked - his penchant for melody and capacity to highlight the profound strength and vulnerability of women. (And in case anyone is wondering where Rosina or Cenerentola are, "Una voce poco fa" will be available as an exclusive download for i-tunes! "Non più mesta" may just appear on the next one!!!)

Speaking of Cenerentola, as well, thanks to Chris for the notice about this:

Finally!! The Cenerentola Juan Diego and I recorded live in Barcelona in January of 2007 is coming out on DVD, it would appear, at the end of October! See? There! Your Christmas shopping list is filling up, already!

The excitement builds!

Oh, wow Joyce! Not one, but two Rossini's gems, and almost at the same time too!
I have just pre-ordered La Cenerentola on Amazon.com and am getting your Colbran, the Muse CD( love the title!)as soon as it becomes available.
As popular and loved as Rossini is, I have a feeling that his music is still a little under-appreciated. However,I am sure that your CD and DVD will convert many more into Rossini's ardent fans.
As a matter of fact, I am reading Stendhal's The Life of Rossini now and have been listening to even more Rossini than before. Can't wait for your two gems to arrive!

You do already have a wonderful Non piu mesta on your Wigmore Hall recording with Julius Drake, as well as on the Naxos recording. I am very much looking forward to this additional Rossini from you!

Llevaba mucho tiempo esperando la salida al mercado de esa Cenerentola que tanto me emocionó en su día.

Dos adquisiciones seguras para Navidad.

Congratulations Joyce.

WOW, Joyce, that cover photo is SEXAAAY!!! I'd hazard a guess that your husband may not be the only man with that photo displayed! The music sounds like it would be lovely, too. I recently purchased a DVD of your friend Flicka's "La Cenerentola" - I've loved Flicka for well over twenty years -- and I look forward to seeing your version. Hope you get lots of good promotion for the CD and the DVD. Will we see you on any talk shows?

Heya Joyce! VERY glad for your CD. Can't wait!

But what is that pic on the cover? I needed to give it a close look to be sure it was you! :)

The program looks great on the paper, so we can start counting the days till 10/03.

And hey, good luck for Marguerite! Do please let us know if there is any radio feed or webcats planned somewhere on the Net.

Cheers

All my love,

... and the track list available on amazon is simply amazing. It´s great that you recorded entire scenes, not only the arias...
And the photo is, to say the truth, simply breathtaking ;))))

Oh FINALLY!! I thought I was losing my mind (well, what's left of it these days) when I couldn't find any "proof" of the DVD being on sale. Then you told me that it hadn't yet been released, and now I know when! Don't laugh about the Christmas list thing . . . music and a warm sweater, who needs anything more (except for a book or two . . .) Will your recitals now be based around this new CD? And I love the new "look" on the cover!

Hello, Joyce. This is my first time commenting. I think your new album looks great and I can't wait to get it tomorrow (it will be available to download from amazon and itunes). Armida is one of my most favorite Rossini operas so I can't wait to hear your interpretation of "D'amor al dolce impero" and of course the final scene. Congratulations on yet another triumph as Rosina at the Met. I plan to see you in the role later this season with LA Opera. I hope that you can someday sing operas like Armida and Elisabetta, regina d'Inghilterra on stage because they would surely bring you as much success as Rosina has.
