Gratitude - Day 63

I'm grateful for music. Joyous, profound, moving, uplifting, humorous, glorious music.

I was wondering if the fact that you guys are using the brand new critical edition of the music effect you singers. I know that the conductor has been asking about pick-ups in the oboe etc. but I was curious if there are any noticeable differences that you need to learn.

Hi, Embly. We are using a new critical edition, and there are some very big changes (for example, if I can remember it, the opening line to Rosina's big aria now reads: "Una voce poco fa, QUA nel cor...") It's a huge challenge to retrain your brain after so many performances! There are a number of articulation marks either added or deleted, etc, and some other big text changes. But overall, it's still "Barbiere"! I hope you'll enjoy it!
Cheers...

Dear Yankeediva,
As the editor of the new Barbiere critical edition, I feel privileged to have it first performed by you and the rest of the fine cast at Lyric. Philip Gossett (the general editor) and I appreciate your efforts to respond to the changes from the older editions. Everyone, from the orchestra pit to the stage and the backstage, has been helping us refine the score before we publish it. I loved being at the rehearsals Monday and Tuesday, and I'm looking forward to the performances. In bocca al lupo!

Patricia! How lovely to hear from you - I'm so happy to know that you're happy with the result - I'm hoping I remember all the changes, but we are truly having a wonderful time with it! Congratulations on all the hard work you've done on this enormous undertaking!

THANK YOU!
